Why Real World Fitness Isn’t Like Most Gyms
If you’ve found this page because you’re thinking about starting your 7-day trial, welcome.
Before you come in, I’d like to explain something.
Real World Fitness isn’t trying to be everything to everyone. We aren’t trying to be the biggest gym in Nottingham, and we’re not trying to be the cheapest.
We’re not trying to cram as many people through the door as possible. In fact, we’ve deliberately chosen not to.
That might sound like a strange thing for a gym owner to say, but it’s one of the reasons people stay with us for years.
We built the gym we’d actually want to train in.
Like a lot of people, I’ve trained in busy commercial gyms.
I’ve waited for squat racks. I’ve watched groups of people occupy equipment for half an hour while filming videos.
I’ve searched the whole gym looking for matching dumbbells.
I’ve walked into changing rooms that weren’t particularly clean. I’ve trained somewhere simply because it was cheap, even though I didn’t really enjoy being there.
When we opened Real World Fitness, I decided I didn’t want to create another version of that.
I wanted to create somewhere that removed as much friction from training as possible. A gym where you can turn up, get on with your workout, and leave feeling like you’ve got done what you needed to get done.
That sounds simple, but it isn’t.
Why we limit membership.
One question I get asked quite often is why we don’t just reduce the price, take on loads more members and make more money.
The honest answer?
Because everybody would enjoy training here less. A full gym isn’t automatically a better gym.
If you spend half your workout waiting for equipment, you’re wasting hours of potential progress (or even just free time outside the gym).
I’d rather have members who can train properly than lots of members who are constantly frustrated, and that’s a conscious business decision.
We care about the little things.
People rarely join a gym just because the gym floor is clean.
They rarely leave a Google review because the temperature was nice on an otherwise hot day (yes, we do have Aircon!).
Nobody gets overly excited because every dumbbell was back where it belonged.
But those little things DO add up.
Equipment should work. The gym should be tidy. The lighting should make the place feel bright and welcoming.
There should be enough space, and few enough members, to train comfortably.
Those aren’t super exciting things, but together they completely change your training experience.
Everybody deserves respect.
We have members in their twenties.
We have members in their seventies.
Some have been lifting weights for decades. Others have never stepped inside a gym before.
They all deserve exactly the same level of respect.
That’s why we expect people to put their equipment away. It’s why we ask people to treat the gym as if it were their own. It’s why you’ll probably get a nod or a smile from other members and our PTs.
You don’t have to become best friends with everyone. Most people simply put their headphones on and get on with their workout, but it’s definitely nice to be acknowedged.
We aren’t interested in gym politics.
You won’t find us chasing social media trends. We don’t offer influencer memberships in exchange for IG posts.
We’re not interested in creating an image that’s different from reality, or appealing to people who want to preserve their entire workout to camera.
What you see when you walk through the door is what you’ll find every day, which to us is much more important than looking impressive online.
If you’re looking for…
A gym that’s loud, crowded and constantly buzzing with people, then our place probably isn’t the place for you.
If you enjoy waiting for equipment because it feels busy, you probably won’t enjoy it here.
If you’re looking for somewhere to socialise rather than train for two hours every evening, then there are certainly better options.
And that’s absolutely fine. Every gym doesn’t have to be the same.
If you’re looking for…
Somewhere you can actually train.
Equipment that’s looked after.
A calm environment.
Friendly people.
Staff who know your name.
A place where training simply becomes part of your week.
Then I genuinely think you’ll enjoy it here.
One thing I ask of every member.
Enjoy your training.
Treat the gym the way you’d want somebody to treat your home. Put your equipment away when you’ve finished.
If we all do those things, everyone benefits.
We’re not the biggest gym, not the cheapest gym, just somewhere people genuinely enjoy coming to, year after year.
