Frequently Asked Questions

Is it too late to start strength training after 60?

No, many people begin strength training in their 60s (or later) and see meaningful gains. Age doesn’t prevent improvement, it just changes the pace of, and how, we train. With proper guidance and structure, even those with no gym background can build strength, improve balance, and reduce fall risk.

Will strength training increase my risk of injury?

When done with proper coaching, controlled progressions, and attention to form, strength training is perfectly safe and can actually reduce injury risk over time. We always start conservatively, monitor how your body responds, and use variations (chair, bench, machine) to keep you stable while building confidence.

How does strength training help prevent falls?

Falls are often tied to weakness, imbalance, and poor coordination. Studies show that combining balance work and resistance training reduces the risk of falls in older adults. By strengthening legs, hips, and core while including balance drills, you’ll feel steadier and safer on your feet.

Do I need to be in great shape already?

Not at all. You don’t need prior fitness, mobility, or gym experience. The program is built so that everyone starts from a place of stability, gradually adding strength and complexity over time.

How often should I train each week?

We recommend two coached strength sessions per week, plus general movement in your daily life (walking, light activity). The NHS recommends doing strength, balance, and flexibility based activities at least twice a week for older adults.

What about cardio or walking?

Cardio is great too, walking, cycling, swimming, etc. But strength and balance work are what truly protect joints, bones, and stability. Many clients find once they feel strong, they enjoy movement even more.

When is the best time of day to train?

There’s no universal “best” time — it depends on your energy levels and daily schedule. Many older adults prefer mornings (after warmth) or mid-afternoon when joints feel more limber. What is most important is consistency.

Will my joints or arthritis get worse?

If you have joint issues, we’ll tailor your program to protect them. Strength helps support joints, and we’ll use joint-friendly variations. Pain is your body’s signal to scale back or adjust when needed.

How quickly will I see results?

People often notice small improvements in balance, posture, and confidence within a few weeks, some within days. Strength gains tend to show over 8–12 weeks of consistent training.
