V02 Max

Postby pjmccartney » Fri Feb 26, 2010 2:29 pm

Hello all,

I wanted to increase my V02 Max for freediving so i found this article and was wondering if anybody explain one of the parts to me (maybe they have read a better version elsewhere) as i think it is somewhat ambiguous, for example, do you decrease the speed by 20% each time etc? Confused

http://www.brianmac.co.uk/vo2max.htm

The section is half way down the page and called 'Improving Your V02 Max'.

Cheers in advance

VO2 max is just a measurement of the maximum amount of oxygen your body can uptake for a given period of time. So I can see why you’d want to improve it for free diving.

It’s a very good indicator of conditioning so anything that improves your conditioning will improve your ability to uptake oxygen. Without getting as technical as the link you posted (because I can't  ) most endurance athletes do 800m interval session at the track to improve V02 max. There are lots of complicated drills to work out the exact pace and distance to use but if you run as quick as you can for 800m recover and repeat 3-4 times a couple of times per week and your V02 max will improve.
